Main Structure Construction Completed for Asia's First Cylindrical FPSO


On December 6th, the main structure construction of Asia's first cylindrical "offshore oil and gas fabrication plant"--floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) "Haiyang Shiyou 122" was completed according to Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. ("COOEC"), the project's EPCI contractor.

The main structure of "Haiyang Shiyou 122" is composed of a hull and topside function modules, has a maximum diameter of about 90 meters, a main deck area equivalent to 13 standard basketball courts, a height comparable to nearly 30 floors, anda total weight of about 36,000 tons, andconsists of nearly 500,000 components. "Haiyang Shiyou 122" can continuously run offshore for 15 years without docking, with a design displacement of 100,000 tons, a maximum oil storage capacity of 60,000 tons, and a design life of 30 years.

The topside modules of "Haiyang Shiyou 122" include eight units such as process, electrical, power, and living facilities, with a total weight of about 8,900 tons by integrating 713 sets of key equipment. The positioning accuracy of the modules' bottom pillars on the hull reaches the millimeter level. The minimum clearance between twomodules is less than the width of an adult's palm, posing extremely high challenges to the construction processes.

Since the start of construction in March 2022, the project team has coped with various difficulties, such as the systemdesign of cylindrical FPSO and high-precision building and integration, and applied 15 types of self-developed key technical equipment. With the integrated construction process and the

integration technology of double gantry cranes, COOEC has significantly improved the efficiency of the construction process byachieving a first-time-through rate of 99%and controlling the accuracy of the hull's main dimension within 6 mm and theaccuracy of structural integration within 4mm, and has created a safety record of 5.3 million working hours without accidents.
